Get The Pieces We Leave Behind
From the very first page, I was captivated by the writing style and the depth of emotion that the author was able to convey. The story follows the journey of the main character, who is faced with a difficult choice that tore at my heartstrings and had me shedding tears throughout the book.
At one point, I was so angry with the main character for the decision they made that I almost stopped reading. I even came close to throwing my iPad in frustration. But something compelled me to continue reading, and I am so grateful that I did. The emotional rollercoaster that I was unknowingly taken on was truly amazing.
One of the things that I loved most about this book was the writing style. It was raw, honest, and unapologetic. Elle didn’t hold back in describing the characters’ emotions and the difficult situations they faced. I felt like I was right there with them, experiencing everything alongside them. Elle’s ability to evoke such strong emotions in the reader is a testament to their talent and skill.
I must mention that this book does come with a few trigger warnings. There is explicit sexual content, profanity, mentions of rape (not between the main characters), bullying, violence, and a main male character with a dirty mouth. There is also a scene of dubcon and drug and alcohol use/abuse. And while I won’t give away any spoilers, I will say that there is also a death of a loved one that may be triggering for some readers.
Despite these triggers, I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well-written romance with complex characters and a touch of angst. Elle’s ability to handle difficult and sensitive topics with grace and sensitivity is commendable. And the fact that this is their debut novel makes it all the more impressive.
