Nineteen-year-old human, Brexley, has grown up in privilege, but not without heartbreak. After being orphaned, she is taken in by General Markos, living in a walled city rife with power grabs and ruthless political games. Then one night the course of her life changes, and Brexley is thrown into the most feared prison in the east. Halalhaz, the House of Deathāwhere you go in but donāt come out.
She must learn to live with the worst of fae and human criminals. The rule of hierarchy puts humans on the bottom, where the only way to survive each day is to make alliances with the fae.
Here she meets the sexy, vicious legend, Warwick Farkas. A myth among man and fae. He is as brutal, cruel, arrogant, and as lethal as the lore says he is, ruling the prison with unchallenged authority. Brexley canāt deny an intense draw to him, one that might cost her life.
If The Games donāt take her out firstāA fight to the death where only one survives.

To Jason Momoa: If I canāt have you in real life, at least I can have you as my book boyfriend
I loved everything about this book until I got to the last four pages and almost threw my kindle out the window. Not what I saw coming, not what I was expecting! I need some answers. But holy fck was that a good book!
Spoilers Ahead
The train operators knew to be on alert thanks to people like me. Thieves
We meet Brexley, a badass mf who loves to live life on the edge. Little did I know that Brexley wasnāt actually a thief but a privileged human living on the inside of the cityās walls. You would think she was doing a Robin Hood kinda scheme to it, but no. She only did it because she could. It was a thrill, putting her skills to the test and proving to herself just how good she was at stealing.
She was a trained fighter, able to take down opponents twice her size. Dragging her best friend Caden (who she is definitely in love with) along with her to rob the trains going into the fae side of Budapest. Caden was the opposite, he followed the rules or at least tries to, never wants to go against his father and kinda sucks. Iām not a fan of his, youāll seeĀ
It had been years since tourists came here, back when Budapest flourished with foreign money and travelers. That all ended the day I was born. My birth not only killed my mother, but had also marked the deaths of millions of humans, the world as they knew it, and was the beginning of the end for this country
I could not imagine the pain she had for being the cause for her mothers death, and probably somehow blamed herself in a way for the barrier and her mother. The world did a 180 in a short amount of time since the wall fell. Fae and humans fought one another, the wealthy rich, privileged humans surrounded themselves in luxury in the new walls they had out around their little city. They didnāt care for the poor or half breeds and the fae were just the same. Only cared about the rich, elite Fae and left the poor and half breeds to fight for themselves.
Neither side cared about the place where the poor, thieves, murderers, druggies, and mixed-species dwelled. Both sides ignored the lawless land, the terrain where the āsavagesā lived, which consumed most of the Pest side like the black plagueĀ
Less than half of a district. As if a scar slashed through the land, most of the Pest side hemorrhaged with people, disease, murder, starvation, prostitution, drugs, poverty and half-breeds. It was called āthe Wild West of the East.ā The Savage Land

The Markos family took in Brexley when her father had died when she was around 15. They had fed her, given her clothes, given her the best of everything. But did they really love her like she was a child of theirs or did they think she would be valuable later on. Seems like the latter was the truth. Istvan Markos(Caden father), wanted the best for her, teaching her chess, history, different languages and economics, while Rebka (Cadenās mother) taught her how to be a proper lady. All to use her later on in life, which smacked her in the face when Istvan had made an arranged marriage for her to some scum bag for a āunionā between two human parties to strength the humans against the fae.
He wanted me as their Queen.
His love had been a loan.
And it was time for me to pay back my debt
She reminds me of Aelin from ToG, strong headed, and big hearted. I fell for Brexley the moment I met her robbing trains. Ā Until one heist goes completely wrong and ends up in the most feared prison on the east side.
āWelcome to the House of Death, 85221.ā He winked at me, strolling away, slipping out of view.
āSweet Dreamsā
Warwick Farkas a man, a myth, a legend who is in prison? The stories told about him around campfires and training are probably all true. He is brutal, cruel and lethal as fuck, definitely donāt want to mess with the sexy, viscous legend or do you? š Even demons stay clear of him. His he human, fae or a demon? No one knows, and no one has come back from the dead before expect for him
Anyone else notice the way that Brexley describes Warwick’s eyes throughout the book? At the beginning his eyes were aqua. In chapter 16 she describes them as turquoise. Then blue-green, and than back to aqua
āWelcome to the gladiator games of Halalhaz. Where two go in and only one comes outā

Prison thrived on breaking people down and rebuilding them. Maybe it worked for others-bad people. But when you broke down good people, we didnāt rise again as even nicer people. No. Thatās not how it worked. We rose like a dragon, one that would spew fire and burn everything to ash. We became depraved
Staring straight ahead, the fae castle in the distance, HDF glittering in the night like stars, I felt something shift inside me.
Whatever was ahead, whatever Killian had planned for me, I would come out alive.
Whatever it took, whatever I had to do, I would survive. Live.
Because right there, I made a promise to myself.
I would kill Warwick Farkas.
It was a promise I would not break.
I would become very monster the House of Death created
