He is considered a monster, living in secrecy -or so he thought- in the Dagger Mountains. Now having magic trapped in his body that he doesn’t know how to control from the creature he killed. Until he is found by a group of mercenaries.
For the past three years Kira has been trying but failing at her magical studies at the Towers of Silver City. Failing for three years has made Kira question why she was brought to the Towers, now she has been given the opportunity to prove herself by going on a secret assignment to find and capture the monster who killed the last old god.
If you love a good miscommunication book this is your go to! Did it make me want to strangle and shake some sense into the MCs? Absolutely but it was written so good, that I’m not complaining. I loved this book, how the magic works in this world, the building and learning about how the Towers operate and how ruthless they can be.
The banter (chef kiss), one bed never fails. Honestly this was a great book. Kira learns more about her and why her magic isn’t working as it’s supposed to be. She makes friends with some unusual people. Rezynk has been isolated for the past three years, his only companion a cat (we all know how I feel about the cat lol), but an unexpected found family is formed that makes me smile and the reunion at the end melts my heart. I can’t wait to see where Kira and Rezynk’s story takes them and who else will join them on their journey next month when book 2 comes out!
It’s a bad habit for a man living alone: talking to yourself. One of many I’ve picked up in the past two years.
I don’t live alone and if it’s a bad habit to talk to yourself I’m screwed. I talk to myself all the time, especially at work or if I just don’t understand what is going on. I can’t be alone?
I was the result of one of those mistakes. My parents were once white-robed Exemplars, the greatest citizens of the Towers of Silver City, those few, gifted humans who are able to manipulate magic as well as the elves and dragons
No one in the Towers cares about Kira Silver. Not now, and not ever. It’s useful, after all, to be a ghost.
Kira is taken from the orphanage she as lived in since she can remember and out of nowhere two white-robed Exemplars come to bring her to the Tower of Silver City where she can learn about her so called magic. When really the Towers knew all long about Kira and where she came from. Her family-her “real” (the people who gave birth to her) were not Exemplars at all, they only wanted Kira for her looks. Used without even knowing it, they didn’t care what happened to her
“Just how much money did you steal from those people?”
“I didn’t steal a single shill,” Zayne replies, wiping his sleeve across his mouth “I did, however, win quite a bit.”
“So that’s why we’re running into the mountains”
“No” Zayne replies. “We’re running into the mountains because the lover boys are having a spat, and they’re subjecting the rest of us to the misery of their relationship”
They form a great friendship I wish we got to see a little more of. Zayn is my favorite side character in this book. He’s mannerisms, he is quick with a joke and cares a lot even if he doesn’t really show or say it

More than a lover, more than a friend. Whatever that is
“Maybe I never loved Lenore. Because maybe love isn’t feeling like you need to prove yourself. Maybe it’s someone who feels like a friend. Or more than a friend. Maybe it’s someone who wants you to live, even when the world expects nothing but death”
“I love you,” I blurt out. Tears spill down my cheeks, making the firelight wink as it fills the room. “That’s why I rescued you,” I say “Even if you don’t feel the same way, I couldn’t leave you. I couldn’t live with myself if I did.”
“Kira,” Reznyk whispers. “Beautiful, brave, brilliant Kira.”…. “I do love you,” he says
