💋 We meet Hailey Hartley who is working with her sister Holly at their uncle’s Irish pub. Holly was taking a gap year so her and Hailey would be attending university together when Hailey graduated. But everything goes to hell and a hand basket when Holly goes missing.

🩵Missing isn’t really the right word. She was kidnapped, and those kidnappers went to extreme lengths to get her.

Then she unleashed a scream so loud, she was sure it would reach her uncle in the cellar. Fin and several patrons burst through the door.

Hailey stood wide-eyed and trembling in the middle of the parking lot, holding a green shoe with hot pink laces.

Fin rushed to catch her as her world went black.

Inside the shoe was Holly’s severed foot.

If you also thought “WTF” you are not alone! I was not expecting this at all! This was a shock, jaw hit the floor when I read this. We have no idea if Holly is alive anymore, what if she isn’t missing?

🔒Their plans to go to school together once again crushed. Unsure how it happened Hailey has just been accepted into a top tier supernatural university – Beare Town University. How could she go to school without her sister now? It was their dream, but with her over protective uncles wanting her to be safe they push her into accepting Beare Town’s scholarship.

A sudden pang for her big sister pushed a lump to her throat. This was not how she’d envisioned her college experience.

Oh, and you ready for this one? What better place to have a supernatural school in The Middle of Nowhere up in Alaska. That’s right, the town is The Middle of Nowhere – Perfect name! With some interesting professors

“Ah, what a delight you are indeed,” said the professor. “Most students would try to bamboozle me. Nobody admits when they don’t know something anymore-this is so refreshing”

I feel like I do this all the time. I’ll say I know what someone is talking about, but really I have no idea. I have noticed this in myself and have been working on admitting that I actually have no idea. Most if not all the time the person is ecstatic to tell you.

Vivid dreams always plagued Hailey but now they seem to be blending into reality. Who would have known that monsters were real or that someone could actually come from Hell? Hailey definitely wasn’t prepared for her roommate to be one of them. 

This roommate was no monster. She was just the girl with the prematurely grey hair. Hailey blew a sign of relief, and as she marveled, Giselle fell like a feather back onto her bed and lifted her magazine again.

I love the relationship that starts to form between these two, as Hailey doesn’t care where Giselle comes from (unlike everyone else in their school) Hailey treats her like a person-a friend. And we get to see how that effects Giselle

Never in her wildest dreams would she have believed the hot bartender from her uncle’s pub would be one of her teachers! Nor did she think the hot mysterious man would be the dean of that school! What is going on!? 

Oh and if you love/hate love triangles you’ll love/hate this one! By the end of it I wasn’t sure if I wanted one of the characters to ☠️ near the end of the book 

I’ll give you the heads up about chapter 38 – Torn. I bet you’ll be able to guess who I wanted to never breathe again. I still don’t know if it was all an act or if Fin does really have feelings for Hailey. I could not tell you, it’s still up in the air (to me)

Favorite Scenes

“I just wish you wanted me,” she said in a small voice, unable to look up at him and trying not to sound like the pathetic little girl that was. “I just…” she shook her head and pulled her elbows in.

God, why has that been me. Wondering why I wasn’t good enough, what was wrong with me and why no matter what I did or what I changed no one wanted me or liked me at all. Until I found the right man who showed me how much he loved me, picked me, chose me and wanted me.

‘Love beats like a drum-” 

“- in the heart of a righteous man,” they both said together.

Fin flashes his eyes at her.

“Did you tell Uncle Pix about this?”

“No,” he said suspiciously.”

“Because he just wrote those exact words in a note to me.”

“I’ve never told anyone about that.”

“You’re the righteous man, aren’t you?” 

“I… the man who gave me this thought so. He told me I was marred and worn, like this ring, but still worth my weight in gold.” 

Once and for all, sparing him another second of living with the agonizing heartache that sucked the air from his chest. He’d hurt the only woman he ever loved, and he’d probably lost her forever. Not that he deserved her anyway. He didn’t deserve to even look at her. 

Again I still don’t know if this is Fin’s real feelings or not. With everything else he said to her that night, how could I believe anything he says about her and his feelings for her.

Favorite Quotes

She’d rather be locked in a trunk full of spiders than attend a school function. Spider bites healed. Gossip stung forever.

I loved this. I was also the girl who hated high school and anything to do with school except for the classes. I went to school to learn, I hated people (still not a fan), it just wasn’t for me. If I didn’t have to be there I wasn’t there. And somehow gossip followed me along the way

She hit her mental mute button

I feel like a lot of people can relate this to. Pushed down, never heard and when you try to stand up or speak out are shut down just as fast. Slowly you start to learn to keep quite, to hit your mental mute button and shut off the world 

I would reorder the world for you,

I promise you, Hailey,” he whispered, “I’ll never lock you away. Forgive me for suggesting it.” 

I still don’t know how I feel about Asher, what are his true motives? Does he truly care about Hailey or just using her to go back home
