When aid workers Will, Melanie, and Jon find themselves tangled in an incident with devastating consequences, throwing them into a world of chaos and despair. Can their loved ones help them find their way back to life?
Rescue is the final book in this series of interconnected novellas.

I’m doing everything to move on from what has happened. Taking a break, tick. Therapy, tick. But the nightmares just won’t go away. Trying to survive on barely any sleep, no wonder I have turned into a grumpy recluse.
The last thing I need is the chipper Bed & Breakfast owner who thinks her muffins (not a euphemism) can make every day a glorious one. I try to avoid her as best as I can, but she is convinced that fresh air and laughter are just what will rescue me.
These novellas are interconnected but can be read standalone.
The book is written in British English and includes adult content. Please read the trigger warnings.
To those who remind us that even the darkest storms can’t hold back the sunshine forever. Sometimes all it takes is a warm smile, love and perhaps a perfectly brewed cup of tea
Last but not least we meet Jon, the last of the three from the Aftermath series, following his story after the accident. Wanting to get away from the world as best he can Jon decides to stay at bed and breakfast for a few weeks to help clear his head, try to regain a sense of normalcy after everything he went through. Little did he know that the bed and breakfast owner would be a beautiful kind hearted widow with her adorable little daughter.
This was such a good read and a beautiful way to wrap up this series. We learned what happened with Will and his family. Mel is working on herself and her “new” relationship and we get to see where Jon and his new love might end up.
I always wondered how the three of them got rescued (ah see what I did there), I was pretty sure we didn’t learn anything about the rescue in the first two books. It was nice to find out how they got found and what it was like in those unbelievable moments. Lucky isn’t the right world, miracle maybe to be found after a land that took out your crew and unfortunately cost the live of one of your coworkers.
I follow, my legs heavy and my heart heavier. Each step feels like a struggle, the mud sucking at my boots, the storm fighting against us. But the determination of the locals is unwavering, their solidarity a reminder of the strength found in community, even amidst tragedy.
I don’t think I would be able to get out of my head or get my body to work properly if I was in a tragic accident like that. Or maybe I would be, shock and adrenaline can make people do crazy things. I have found in real life that when something tragic does happen and is witnessed by locals, the locals team together and become the help that they need. They take care of everyone involved in the accident.
“My boss rescued me, honestly. I told her I couldn’t do this anymore-couldn’t keep going out there-and she’s moved me into a role here, something that doesn’t require trips to abroad. It’s a relief. The aftermath of all this… it’s just too much.”
Everytime I read the title of a book this scene from Family Guy season 9 Episode 10 Friends of Peter G.
“There’s nothing wrong with your curves,” he continues, his gaze steady on mine. “On the contrary”
His words land softly but the powerfully, unravelling thread of doubt in my mind. I let out a shaky laugh, brushing my hair behind my ear. “That’s kind of you to say.”
“It’s not kindness,” he says, cutting a forkful of his own cake. “It’s the truth. And if I ever hear you putting yourself down like that again, I’ll…well I may just have to spank that delicious round arse of yours.”
