Get Shade of Light
As an avid reader, I often find myself picking up books that I wouldn’t normally choose. This was the case when I started reading a new book that I had heard a lot about. Not going to lie, I had to push through the beginning of the book. I couldn’t seem to get into the story and I wasn’t sure if it was because I wasn’t in the right mood for reading or if the book just wasn’t grabbing my attention. However, I am so glad that I persevered and pushed through because once I did, I was completely immersed in the world and characters.
The first few chapters of the book were a bit slow for me. I found myself struggling to connect with the story and the characters. But something kept me going, perhaps it was the hype surrounding the book or maybe it was my determination to finish what I had started. Whatever it was, I am grateful for it because as I delved deeper into the story, I realized that the slow start was worth it.
The world building in this book is truly remarkable. The author has created a vivid and unique world that is filled with magic, otherworldly creatures, and complex political systems. It was this world building that kept me intrigued and wanting to learn more about the different kingdoms and their histories. The attention to detail in creating this world was evident and it made the reading experience all the more enjoyable.
But it wasn’t just the world building that had me hooked; it was also the characters and their stories. Each character was well-developed and had their own strengths and flaws. I found myself invested in their journeys and rooting for them as they faced challenges and made difficult decisions. The friendships and found family dynamics in the book were also heartwarming and added depth to the story.
The turning point for me was when more magic and otherworldly creatures were introduced in the story. This added an extra layer of excitement and intrigue, making me unable to put the book down. As the plot unfolded, I found myself completely engrossed in the story and needing to know what would happen next.
I must admit, this book is not something I would have picked for myself. But I am so glad that I did. It is a great young adult book that I believe would be perfect for teens and young adults. It has all the elements that make for a great read – adventure, friendships, found family, and heroism without the focus being solely on romance. This is not to say that there is no romance in the book, but it takes a backseat to the main plot, which I found refreshing.
