Get House of Earth & Blood
When I first picked up this book, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Sure, I knew the names of the characters and what they looked like, but I had no clue about the plot or the world they inhabited. As I delved into the first few chapters, I quickly realized that this book was going to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions and unexpected twists.
The initial chapters were mostly dedicated to world building, and as someone who enjoys immersing myself in new fictional worlds, I was not complaining. Being a Hyperphantasia, I could vividly imagine the scenes and locations described in the book. However, when it came to picturing the characters, I couldn’t quite conjure up a clear image. Thankfully, fan art came to my rescue, and I loved seeing the different interpretations of the characters’ appearances.
This was also the first time I had ever written in a book. The first thing I wrote in the margins was a simple ‘WTF.’ And let me tell you, there were many more ‘WTF’ moments to come. The twists and turns in the plot had me constantly second guessing everything and kept me on the edge of my seat.
One of the things I loved most about this book was how the relationship between the two main characters, Bryce and Hunt, evolved throughout the course of their investigation. It was a slow burn that kept me hooked and rooting for them until the very end. And speaking of spice, it definitely delivered after 500 pages. But this book wasn’t just about romance; it also portrayed the beautiful friendship between Bryce and her best friend, Danika. Their unwavering loyalty and support for each other, despite their reputation as party girls, was heartwarming to read.
Another aspect that I appreciated was the representation of the main character, Bryce. As someone who is not the ‘average’ body type for most female protagonists, it was refreshing to see her portrayed as a plus-sized woman. As someone who has struggled with body image in the past, I found it empowering to have a character who was confident in her own skin. However, I do wish that the book delved deeper into her struggles and insecurities, rather than just briefly mentioning them.
The last 200 pages of the book were a rollercoaster of emotions. The unexpected turns and heartbreak had me in tears, and my heart still aches when I think about it. Without giving too much away, I will say that the ending left me with so many questions and a desperate need to dive into the next book in the series.
And that’s exactly what I did. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, and I’m happy to say that some of my questions were answered. However, there are still many mysteries and plot threads that I hope will be explored in the upcoming books.
This book took me on a journey that I was not prepared for. It had me laughing, crying, and constantly on the edge of my seat. The characters were well-developed and relatable, and the world-building was immersive. I cannot recommend this book enough, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes in the rest of the series.
