“The first year is when some of us lose our lives. The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity.” —Xaden Riorson

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College—Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits—and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College—and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

Get Iron Flame

I have so many questions, my heart hurts, and I need some time to process what I just experienced while reading Iron Flame.

Still waiting for my shadow daddy to show up but that’s besides the point. I’m still reeling in from the ending, trying to process what just happened and what it means going forward.

War is coming, half the cadets and professors have left Basgiath war college and headed to a secret location to learn to fight the “new ” incoming enemy the leadership and high rank officers have been keeping classified for centuries. While war rages around the continent Violet and Xaden try working on their relationship, Xaden is working on opening up more but only when asked. Violet needs to know everything, it’s who she is. Will these two figure it out?

Andarna is pretty much me in my adolescents, sassy af, always talking back and has some good comebacks for Tarin. Train reminds me of an old man tired of having to put up with her shit, and always mad when no one listens to him (every old man ever).

We learn some of Sgaeyl’s secrets she has been keeping from her mate Tarin, I’m wondering how that is going to turn out later.

The last few hundred pages of ‘Iron Flame‘ had my heart racing and tears pouring down my face. Rebecca has a way of throwing unexpected twists and turns at her readers, and this book was no exception. I found it hard to put the book down once everything started to unravel. And now, I’m left with so many questions and theories about what will happen in the next book.

It has everything a reader could ask for – action, romance, humor, and an unpredictable plot. I can confidently say that this series is worth the hype and that I am eagerly waiting for the next book to see how the story unfolds. But for now, I need some time to process and recover from the emotional rollercoaster that was ‘Iron Flame‘.
