I have been a fan of Sarah J. Maas’s writing for a while now, so when her newest book, ‘House of Earth and Blood’ was released, I couldn’t wait to dive in. However, I was a little confused about where the story was going with the opening scene involving Sofie, the Hind, and the other Agents. But like always, Maas has a plan for everything, and as I continued reading, I was completely blown away.
But before I delve into my thoughts on the book, I have to admit something. I tried my best to stay away from spoilers before diving into this book. I wanted to experience every twist and turn, every surprise and revelation, on my own. But somehow, I couldn’t resist taking a peek at some fanart creations. And let me tell you, they are amazing. But little did I know, these fanarts would give me a bit of a spoiler about Ruhn and Lidia’s relationship. And yet, when I finally reached that part of the book, I was still taken aback and pleasantly surprised. The mind communication between the two of them is so intriguing, and it adds another layer to their already complex relationship.
Let’s talk about Danika. Even though she has been gone for over two years, she still plays a significant role in the story. Her past and her connection to almost everyone are slowly revealed, shedding light on her actions and how they impact the present. And let me tell you, Danika has some secrets that will change the course of the future. And while we’re on the topic of secrets, the wolves have their own drama going on. Ithan’s exile and Sabine’s deluded belief that she is the center of the world add more tension to the already complicated plot. I am eager to see how things will unfold for them in the next installment, and I have a feeling that Danika will play an even more significant role from the other side.
Can we talk about the shocking truth that we learn about what happens when someone dies? The generations-old lie about the afterlife is blown out of the water, and what we thought was a peaceful existence turns out to be a nightmare. The concept of this afterlife is so unique and intriguing, and I couldn’t help but be captivated by it. It adds a whole new dimension to the story and raises the stakes for our beloved characters.
Did someone say romance? While it takes a backseat to the main plot, the slow burn romance between Bryce and Hunt is one of the highlights of the book. Their banter and chemistry are off the charts, and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. But what I loved most about their relationship is how it evolves throughout the book.
As the story progresses, we also get a deeper look into the rebellion that is brewing in Crescent City. The rebels are fighting back against the corrupt rulers, and they will do anything for their cause. Maas does an excellent job of showing the different perspectives and motivations of the rebels, making them more than just faceless enemies.
But of course, the biggest reveal and plot twist happens within the last ten pages. And let me tell you, my mind was blown. I had a feeling of what was going to happen to Bryce, as I accidentally read the last page while checking how many pages were left in the book. But I was not prepared for the way things went down. And I have to give credit to the author for keeping me guessing until the very end. And as for Hunt, his fate left me with a whirlwind of emotions, much like Nesta and Cassian’s fate in the battle with Hybern in the ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ series. I am desperate to find out what happens to him and if he can find his way back to Bryce or if she can find her way back to him.
In conclusion, ‘House of Earth and Blood’ is a must-read for all fantasy lovers out there. With its intricate plot, multifaceted characters, and jaw-dropping twists, this book will keep you hooked from start to finish. And even if you accidentally come across some spoilers (like I did), trust me, it will not take away from the experience of reading this phenomenal book. So if you haven’t already, I highly recommend diving into this world of angels, demons, and witches. And just a word of advice, prepare yourself for a wild ride because this book will leave you breathless.
Now, let’s address the questions that have been on everyone’s mind. Is the person on the cover Rhun and Hunt? One side of the man does have a Fae ear and gold eyes like Bryce, and the lightning is only surrounding one arm. Maybe it’s both of them?
