The Incredible Impact of Carved in Scars: A Book Review

Everyone everywhere is dirty. Places like this just make it easier for them to hide.

Ally’s life is turned upside down when her mother is arrested, and she’s sent to Washington to live with her aunt and uncle. After spending part of her life homeless, the picturesque house near the water looks like a dream, but it isn’t long before Ally realizes it’s a nightmare.

Devon has watched his stepsister’s best friend since the first time he saw her, fascinated by her dark eyes and introspective nature. He’s determined to break down Ally’s walls and make her his.

But Ally’s troubled home life and friendship with his stepsister, Darci, complicates things. The two keep their relationship a secret and come up with a plan. And it seems like it’s going to work…

Until they find the body.

Now, Devon is out of jail and wants revenge against the person who put him there, the person who started all of this, the only one who could possibly know what happened that night…

Ally.

The story follows two main characters, Ally and Devon, whose lives are intertwined in ways they never could have imagined. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but there is also an underlying current of tension and mystery that keeps the reader hooked. As I delved deeper into the book, I couldn’t help but draw parallels to the popular TV show Pretty Little Liars, with its secrets and lies and unexpected twists.

But what truly captured my heart was the way the story brought me back to my high school years. The innocent young love, the struggle to find oneself, the desire to escape from the world and just be yourself. It was all so relatable, and it made me feel like I was back in my teenage years, experiencing everything alongside the characters. And speaking of characters, I have to mention how beautifully they were crafted. Each one had their own unique voice and personality, and I found myself rooting for them, feeling their pain and joy as if it were my own.

One of the things that surprised me the most was the unexpected ending. I had convinced myself that we would never find out what happened to Darci, and I was okay with that. But as the story progressed, I found myself becoming more and more invested in the murder investigation, trying to piece together the clues along with the characters. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, the twist at the end left me reeling. I couldn’t believe it. It was a brilliant and unexpected ending that I did not see coming.

However, I have to admit that there were some parts of the book that hit a little too close to home for me. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and feelings of isolation in the past, I could relate to Ally’s character on a personal level. I could feel her emotions, her fears, her struggles, and it made the reading experience even more intense for me. But at the same time, it was comforting to know that I was not alone in these feelings, and that is one of the things I love most about Elle’s books. She has a way of creating characters and stories that speak to her readers in a profound way.

And let’s not forget about Devon’s character. His return to the story scared the living daylights out of me. The pent-up anger and resentment he carried were palpable, and I found myself holding my breath every time he appeared on the page, wondering what he would do next. He added an extra layer of suspense and danger to the story, making it impossible for me to put the book down.

In conclusion, I have to say that this book is a must-read. It has everything you could want in a story – romance, mystery, suspense, and relatable characters. It’s a roller coaster ride that will leave you breathless and wanting more. So if you’re looking for a book that will take you on an emotional journey and leave you with a satisfying ending, then look no further. I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book and immersing yourself in its pages. You won’t regret it.
